ingredients for dark chocolate almond butter bark
coconut oil: Coconut oil is a fantastic oil full of healthy fats. It gives this recipe a creamy, rich consistency. Industrial seed oils (like corn, soybean, and canola oils) are high in omega-6s and can cause inflammation in the body. Coconut oil, on the other hand, contains anti-inflammatory fatty acids. Look for unrefined or expeller-pressed coconut oil. If you want to avoid a “coconutty” taste, opt for expeller-pressed coconut oil.
cacao powder: Cacao powder is a wonderful source of antioxidants and magnesium. It gives this recipe a yummy, chocolatey flavor.
maple syrup: Maple syrup acts as a natural sweetener, making this recipe free of refined sugar. Look for 100% maple syrup. It’s a great source of antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals, and it tastes great!
almond butter: Almond butter is a yummy swap to use in this recipe in place of peanut butter. Almond butter has both protein and monounsaturated fats. It works nicely to thicken the dark chocolate bark, and it has a yummy, nutty flavor. Look for organic almond butter to make sure the product has not been sprayed with harmful fertilizers and pesticides. Cashew butter or sunflower seed butter would also work in this recipe.
sea salt: Sea salt contains beneficial minerals not found in traditional table salt. I love to use Redmond Real Salt in all my cooking!
add-in options
This dark chocolate almond butter bark is so yummy with some nuts, seeds, dried fruit, or dried coconut added in! I like to add cut up cashews and dried cranberries (I found some sweetened with only applejuice!) to my batch. So so good!
For a protein boost, you could also add in some protein powder to the chocolate bark. I love to use the bone broth protein from Paleo Valley. It’s tasteless, and it works really well in this recipe.
Additionally, you could add a drop of orange essential oil or some orange zest for a yummy, citrus flavored chocolate bark. Peppermint would also be a fun addition to the bark!
